The Diploma in Diving and Marine Medicine (DiDMM) is an exciting program designed to train the participant in the essentials of caring for patients in the marine environment. The participants will receive specialized training in diving physics, physiology and medicine; management of diving accidents; hazards of the marine environment; the essentials of medicine at sea; water rescue and survival techniques; and trip planning. The DiDMM is a new program offered by the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.

The Wilderness Medical Society is partnering with worldwide experts to offer a first class experience. The DiDMM is composed of 3 domains: Diving Medicine, Marine Medicine and Sciences, and Medicine at Sea.

The Diploma in Mountain Medicine (DiMM) is an exciting program designed to train the participant in the essentials of caring for patients in the technical mountain environment. The DiMM has set the standard for nearly 20 years in Europe and other parts of the world for the education of healthcare professionals in mountain medicine and rescue.

The WMS partnered with the University of Utah and University of Colorado to introduce this exciting program in the USA. The DiMM is an internationally recognized course certifying that the participant has undergone rigorous training and testing. The medical commissions of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA) and International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR), together with the International Society for Mountain Medicine (ISMM), established minimal requirements for these courses in 1997.

The Fellowship program (Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine™ or FAWM) offers a means to identify those who have fulfilled a demanding set of requirements validating their training and experience in wilderness medicine. Society members enroll in the Academy and, by completing lessons from a pre-established Wilderness Medicine curriculum as well as receiving credit for specific identifiable experience, accumulate credit toward becoming a Fellow.

Any current member of the WMS who successfully completes the requirements will have the distinction of being a registered member of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and entitled to use the designation Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) and may reference it on resumes, business cards, and advertisements.
