ABOUT THE EDUCATION: CME/FAWM

TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians and other health professionals who engage in wilderness activities, who counsel individuals who take part in such activities, or who practice in austere environments.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
• Demonstrate increased awareness of medical problems unique to the wilderness or austere environment
• Prevent, diagnose and manage illnesses or injuries in wilderness and/or remote situations
• Promote increased awareness of safety and accident prevention in wilderness surroundings

ACCREDITATION
The Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The WMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 50.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Wilderness Medicine for the Prof Practitioner – 16 credits
Disaster Medicine Symposium – 5.5 credits
WMS Conference & Annual Meeting – 36.75 credits

NURSES
Most State Boards of Registered Nurses accept AMA Category 1 Credit as meeting continuing education requirements for license renewal. Nurses should check with their state board regarding use of CME credit.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS
The American Academy of Physician Assistants accepts Category 1 CME approval from organizations accredited by the ACCME.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

FELLOWSHIP CREDIT
The 2009 WMS Wilderness Medicine Conference & Annual Meeting offers a substantial number of core and elective credits of the required 100 total credits of training and experience for Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
