This program is open to all levels of health care providers and focuses on developing competency in fundamental wilderness medical skills through coached practice and hands-on scenarios simulating likely wilderness medical scenarios. You will learn fundamental, yet critical, skills for managing patients in a wilderness or extended care environment.

Summary of Objectives
Upon completion of the practicum the participant, in a wilderness setting, will be able to:

• Perform a patient assessment; manage life threats and scene safety
• Manage head, spine, and musculoskeletal injury with minimal equipment
• Manage emergencies due to heat, cold, and altitude
• Understand the utility and limits of ALS in the wilderness
• Prepare a reasonable pack with essential medical and personal gear for 24 hours in the wilderness
• Organize, lead, and participate in a simulated wilderness litter evacuation

ABOUT WMI: For 18 years the Wilderness Medicine Institute has been a leader in wilderness medical training with more than 40,000 graduates. It teaches wilderness medicine practices and protocols that are supported by a physician-based medical advisory panel.
