Please join us for the perfect mix of education, fun and luxury sailing, in the British Virgin Islands, February 2-9, 2013.
Accredited by the Wilderness Medical Society, medical professionals will earn 16.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. However, you needn't be a medical professional to join MedSail 2013. This event is open to any sailor who wants to feel safer and more knowledgeable on the water.
Sail aboard a Moorings Signature Crewed Yacht with two other couples participating in the MedSail 2013 Conference or Captain your own boat, choosing from our fleet of over 200 bareboats, ranging in size from 32 to 54-ft., monohulls or catamarans.
You will attend a two hour seminar ashore each morning and sail to a different anchorage each day, with stops along the way for snorkeling, hiking, shopping or just relaxing. Meet up with everyone at your next anchorage for a late afternoon one-hour workshop.

Objectives:
Following this program, we expect participants will be able to:
- Learn how to treat common medical problems, traumatic injuries, and medical emergencies encountered in recreational boating, and diving.
- Describe the nature and treatment of illness and injuries from hazardous marine life and seafood toxins.
- Describe the pathophysiology, treatment, and prevention of environmental threats faced by mariners e.g., hypothermia, lightning, cold water immersion, and solar injury.
- Describe the principles of health and safety at sea, and the measures to prevent accidents, illness, injury, and death at sea.
- Review the principles of medically safe scuba diving.
- Review the causes and prevention of drowning, and the treatment of submersion incidents in warm and cold water.
- Review the new emergency communication systems used in search and rescue, medical evacuation, and telemedicine.
- Become familiar with the unique supplies and requirements of a marine medical kit.
- Know the basic principles of travel medicine.
Target Audience:
The target audience includes physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and mariners who work or play, or who are medically responsible for the health and safety of others in marine environments.
Accreditation:
The Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The WMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Academy of Wilderness Medicine:
Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM™) is designed for individuals who want to be acknowledged for their professional achievement in Wilderness Medicine and validate their training for their patients and clients.
